TUTORBOT TERMS OF USE

1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

By accessing and using TutorBot (the “Platform”), you agree to these Terms of Use and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must not use the Platform.

2. PLATFORM DESCRIPTION AND LIMITATIONS

2.1 Educational Research Platform

  • TutorBot is an experimental research platform developed by RIT’s AI Foundry for exploring AI-assisted learning
  • The Platform is provided solely for optional educational support and pedagogical research
  • TutorBot is NOT a replacement for professional instruction, tutoring, or academic support services

2.2 No Grading or Assessment

  • The Platform does not and will not affect your grades or academic standing
  • AI interactions are not monitored for academic integrity purposes
  • The Platform does not replace or fulfill any course requirements unless explicitly stated by your instructor

2.3 AI Limitations

  • AI assistants may provide incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information
  • Responses are generated automatically and have not been verified for accuracy
  • You are responsible for verifying all information received through the Platform
  • AI assistants cannot replace human judgment, expertise, or instruction

3. APPROPRIATE USE

3.1 Educational Purpose Only

  • Use the Platform only for legitimate educational purposes related to enrolled courses
  • Faculty may only create courses and content for legitimate RIT educational purposes
  • Research use must comply with applicable IRB and research ethics requirements

3.2 Academic Integrity

  • You remain bound by RIT’s Academic Integrity Policy
  • Using AI-generated content in assignments without proper attribution may constitute academic dishonesty
  • Consult your instructor about appropriate use of AI tools for coursework

3.3 Prohibited Conduct

You agree NOT to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of RIT policies
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to systems or data
  • Introduce malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
  • Harass, threaten, or harm other users
  • Submit content that is offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate for an educational environment
  • Use the Platform to generate content for commercial purposes
  • Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or misuse the AI models
  • Share account credentials or allow unauthorized access to your account
  • Circumvent any technical limitations or security measures

4. DATA COLLECTION AND PRIVACY

4.1 Research Data Collection

  • Your interactions with AI assistants are recorded for pedagogical research purposes
  • Data collected includes: chat conversations, session duration, question progression, and feedback ratings
  • By using the Platform, you consent to this data collection for research purposes

4.2 Anonymization and Use

  • Research data may be anonymized and used for academic publications and presentations
  • Individual student performance is never shared with instructors for grading purposes
  • Aggregate data may be shared with faculty to improve course design

4.3 No Expectation of Privacy

  • Do not share personal, sensitive, or confidential information with AI assistants
  • All interactions should be considered non-private and may be reviewed for research

5. DISCLAIMERS

5.1 No Warranties

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of AI-generated content
  • Fitness for any particular educational purpose
  • Availability or uninterrupted access
  • Security or privacy of data beyond stated policies

5.2 No Professional Advice

  • The Platform does not provide professional academic, medical, psychological, or legal advice
  • For academic concerns, consult your instructor or academic advisor
  • For personal concerns, contact appropriate RIT support services

6. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

  • RIT, its trustees, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates are NOT LIABLE for any damages arising from use of the Platform
  • This includes direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive, or special damages
  • This includes loss of data, academic penalties, or any claimed educational harm
  • Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the Platform

7. INDEMNIFICATION

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless RIT and its trustees, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use or misuse of the Platform
  • Your violation of these Terms or applicable policies
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Content you submit to the Platform

8. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

8.1 Platform Content

  • All Platform content, software, and materials are property of RIT or its licensors
  • You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without permission

8.2 Your Content

  • You retain rights to content you create
  • You grant RIT a license to use your interactions for research and Platform improvement
  • Faculty-created course content remains subject to RIT intellectual property policies

9. ACCOUNT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You are responsible for all activity under your account
  • Keep your credentials confidential
  • Report unauthorized access immediately
  • Provide accurate information and maintain current contact details

10. EDUCATIONAL RECORDS DISCLAIMER

  • TutorBot operates outside the scope of FERPA as it does not maintain educational records
  • The Platform does not access, store, or process grades or official academic records
  • Interactions with TutorBot are not part of your educational record
  • This Platform is separate from RIT’s official academic systems

11. TERMINATION

  • RIT may terminate or suspend access at any time without notice
  • The Platform is experimental and may be discontinued at any time
  • Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately

12. MODIFICATIONS

  • RIT may modify these Terms at any time
  • Continued use after posting of changes constitutes acceptance
  • Check these Terms regularly for updates

13. GOVERNING LAW

  • These Terms are governed by New York State law
  • Disputes shall be resolved in courts of Monroe County, New York
  • You waive any objections to jurisdiction or venue

14. SEVERABILITY

If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.

15. ENTIRE AGREEMENT

These Terms constitute the entire agreement regarding the Platform and supersede all prior agreements.
